Basic Meatball Recipe

This Basic Meatball Recipe is so versatile that it can be used for several dishes, including my Easy Swedish Meatballs.

Let’s make this Basic Meatball Recipe!

I make my meatballs like I make my meatloaf and in fact, if you wanted to, you could certainly make this into a meatloaf! I’m using both ground beef and ground pork, but feel free to switch it up based on your personal preferences. Just be mindful to keep the flavors neutral if you are planning on using these for a variety of recipes.

Add panko bread crumbs (if making meatloaf, I’d substitute torn leftover bread here) and eggs.

Add salt…

And pepper.

Next, dice the onion and add.

Milk just makes it more tender.

I’m using this cookie scoop to make my meatballs consistent in size. You can get it here at Amazon.com (*affiliate link).

Any baking or sheet pan will work for these, but when I found this non-stick donut hole pan (*affiliate link), I immediately knew I would be using it for meatballs instead. Instead of the flat bottom created when you bake meatballs, this gives you a perfect round meatball. I do give them a flip (with the help of a spoon) about halfway through the baking time. Totally optional, but I do love my kitchen gadgets 🙂

Bake at 375 degrees for about 12-15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Farenheit. They come out amazing!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Beef I used 80/20
  • 1 lb Pork Sausage unseasoned
  • 1/2 c Onion finely diced
  • 1/2 c Panko Breadcrumbs plain (not seasoned) if you are planning on using these for various recipes
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1/4 c Milk OPTIONAL
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Combine the ingredients for the meatballs and using a small cookie scoop, place into damp hands forming a compact ball.
  • Place onto a lined baking sheet OR into a specialty pan as I have here today (this is completely optional).
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the internal temperature reads about 160 degrees Farenheit.
  • Remove from the baking sheet to a paper towel to drain any excess grease.
  • To freeze cooked meatballs, allow to cool completely. Place them onto a small sheet pan and allow to freeze completely. Then place into a freezer safe bag in a single layer. To reheat, simply defrost or add directly to a soup or sauce and allow to simmer until heated through.
