Most of us are fanatics of this cult-favorite, but If you are not familiar with Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits , I thought I’d give you a few fun facts!
What are Cheddar Bay Biscuits
Mixed in-restaurant by hand using a top-secret recipe, Cheddar Bay Biscuits are made with aged cheddar cheese and brushed with a savory garlic topping. This copycat is easily made at home and tastes just like the original!
History of Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits
According to its website, Red Lobster initially introduced in 1992 as “freshly baked, hot cheese garlic bread.” The biscuits were coined “Cheddar Bay Biscuits” five years later to reflect the seaside atmosphere of Red Lobster restaurants.
Red Lobster would serve the biscuits on trays to guests in the lobby as they waited for their table. Because the demand for biscuits in the lobby became so high, it was decided to serve the biscuits at the tables for all of the guests to enjoy.
How to make Cheddar Bay Biscuits
The ingredients are simple and likely those you already have on hand. You’ll need:
- All Purpose Flour
- Baking Powder
- Butter
- Cheddar Cheese, shredded
- Milk (or if you have it, even better … buttermilk)
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Sugar
and for the butter topping:
- Melted Butter
- Parsley, chopped (or dried)
- Italian Seasoning
- Garlic Powder (optional)
Combine the dry ingredients, then cut in the butter with a pastry blender (or two knives). You can also use your fingers to work it in, but you want the butter to stay cold so work fast as the warmth of your hands will soften it. Add the cheddar and milk and stir just until combined.
Spray a cookie scoop with vegetable spray every few times and place the rounded balls onto a silicone or parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake until cooked through and golden.
Meanwhile, combine butter, parsley, Italian parsley and garlic powder and microwave on low just until it begins to melt.
Brush the tops with the melted butter mixture and serve immediately.
The butter will soak in after just a few minutes.
